Epilepsy and Memory

A disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed, causing seizures.

Epilepsy may occur as a result of a genetic disorder or an acquired brain injury, such as a trauma or stroke.

Anyone can develop epilepsy. Epilepsy affects both males and females of all races, ethnic backgrounds and ages.

Epilepsy can cause memory related issues. It can affect at any stage during the process of memory : attention, storage or retrieval. Since epilepsy cause changes in brain functions it can be a precursor of several mental and physical disorders. While taking case history of a patient it is important to note whether the patient has a history of epilepsy.
