FEAR OF FAILURE

We live in a hypercritical society where expectations are sky high. We start to inject fear into the mind of toddlers when they start formal education. Children are taught not to fail and if they fail, they do not receive any rewards nor proper consideration nor explanation. They are not taught how to handle failures and that is the reason why we hear kids taking their life after school/university before exams. These are not kids who have failed but kids who fear they may fail. Who is responsible for instilling such fear of failure in kids? Such fear from childhood has a great importance in once behaviour when they grow up.

Is it just winning matters? How we win and how much we were able to win is also a factor. We measure ability with integers not how much a person’s ability to understand. What people do not understand is that success and failure are two sides of a coin with different meaning. A person who succeeds learn less from a person who fails, in fact you learn more from failure than success.

Life is all about learning or understanding and it should not be a torture for yourself nor for others. Opinion of people play a big role in our life and we do not want negative opinion from others. When we allow fear to stop our progress in life, we are likely to miss some golden opportunities along the way.

Don’t hesitate to do things due to fear of failure. Allow yourself to try new things and fall flat on your face. What you learned from failing is greater than the minor loss or embarrassment of falling itself. Valuable insights come only after a failure. Accepting and learning from those insights is key to success in life.
