Management of children with ADHD during COVID-19

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder. A person with ADHD has differences in brain development and brain activity that affect attention, the ability to sit still, and self-control. ADHD can affect a child at school, at home, and in friendships. ADHD often begins in childhood and can persist into adulthood.

ADHD can be of three different types: Inattentive, Hyperactive and Combined type.

Combined type is the most common type of ADHD which is characterized by impulsive and hyperactive behaviors as well as inattention and distractibility.

Children with ADHD are difficult to handle by parents or teachers alone. Hence they require special attention by therapists. Now during the pandemic, it is quite difficult for these kids to sit in one single place and attend online classes. They are not able to seek direct professional help from their therapists and it is a tough time for parents too.

It is important to engage them through various activities so that their hyperactivity level can be reduced. For those who lack attention, exercises like brain gyms, puzzles etc. can be administered.
